Antibiotics are powerful drugs used to treat bacterial infections. They were serendipidously discovered in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. At the time of antibiotic discovery, some doctors and scientists thought humans had won the war against infectious diseases and that people would no longer die from bacterial infections. Antibiotics is not effective in treating infections caused by viruses.
